ORIGIN & HERITAGE of The Baxter Brenton
The Baxter Brenton Conglomerate is at its core, a family business. The founder of the business, Dr. Donn Pjongluck, grew up surrounded by entrepreneurship. In fact both sides of his family had a long history in commerce and business.
On the paternal side the history of family business can be traced back as far as the reign of king Rama V of Thailand (1900 – 1910). At this time the founder’s great-great-grandfather, (a Chinese migrant from Chao Yang in Southern China) settled down in Thailand. Despite arriving with very little he managed to build himself up and started his own general merchandise store in the Wang Burapa area of old Bangkok.
Eventually he passed this area to his son, who continued to grow and develop it and explored new opportunities in the Sampeng Areas of old Bangkok including pawn shops, international money transfer and insurance businesses.
The founder’s mother was also the 3rd generation of the family to inherit a trading business. The shop sold all kinds of consumer products and was located at the best spot in front of Central Market in Surin province and later on diversified into a bus company, land development, and wholesaling.
The founder’s parents decided to step away from their inherited business and start something anew. They moved into the textile and garment industry and began supplying many top brands for export to Europe and America. The founder of the Baxter Brenton group became involved in this business as he grew up, and he was instrumental in developing it beyond the local area. Over time he was able to assist in the growth of the family business on an international level to Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bangladesh. In doing to he was able to maximize sales, attract new customer and set clearer targets for the business.
Through a century of entrepreneurial spirits of the family, the founder and his family have inherited deep sense of mercantile and commercial traits. Skills, know how, quality orientation, customer service and satisfaction, merchandising skills, trading expertise and business acumen, as well as commercial and social responsibilities including fair deals and trades, have been passed down through generations of the founder’s family. These qualities have been amalgamated to reflect a distinguished business outlook and taste of the founder.
After a restructuring of the family business, Donn Pjongluck created the Baxter Brenton Conglomerate in order to further develop the business in his preferred direction.
Growing up in a family with such a rich culture of commerce has afforded the founder a unique skills set and drive to succeed. He has taken this created a brand that fits his personality and in which he has instilled his core values.
